Servings: For 3-4 hungry people!
Ingredients:
Toor Dal: 1 - 1.5 Cups [1 Cup - 160 ml]
Mustard: 1 tsp
Fenugreek: 1 tsp
Red chilli: 2 nos.
Curry leaves: 5-6 leaves
Vegetables: 2-3 cups
Salt: to taste (1- 1.5 tsp)
Turmeric powder: 1/4 tsp
Red Chilli powder: 1 -1.5 tsp
Asafoetida: 1 pinch
Sambar powder: 2 -2.5 tsp
Tamarind paste: 1 tsp
Coconut powder: 1 tbsp
Oil: 2 tsp
Method:
1. Wash and boil Thoor Dal with equal/ little more than equal amount of water in a pressure cooker. Dal will be boiled in 3 whistles (traditional cooker)
2. Simultaneously, take a vessel (in which you want to prepare sambar). Add oil. Once oil is hot, add mustard, fenugreek, red chilli and curry leaves.
3. When mustard splutters, add all vegetables and enough water to just drown the veggies, salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder and hing (LG/ asafoetida). Bring to a boil
3. Once the vegetables have boiled, add the boiled dal to it and let it boil once
4. Mix sambar powder in 2 tsp of water and add to the dal and vegetables
5. Add the tamarind paste and bring to a boil
6. You can also add coconut powder/ scrappings
Yummy Sambar is ready!
